Just a recap of the last couple of days. (this is really long)
So on Wednesday our visitors left. We were really sad to take them to the airport. Cannon was so tired from all of the adventures, he fell back asleep on the way home. Karlee on the other hand, chatted with me and sang songs. I didn't quite understand what songs she was singing, but they did have a tune. Our trip back home was a little crazy and with traffic it took a lot longer than expected. Closer to Detroit are hundreds of "on and off" ramps really close together. It reminds me of spider-webs. Hundreds of roads that are all connected at some point. Well I was paying attention to Karlee and our garmin told me to exit right, stay left. I didn't hear the stay left part until after our exit had passed. So I started heading back to Detroit. The garmin "recalculates" when you make a wrong turn, but sometimes when the roads are so close together it can't tell exactly what road you are on. After the garmin "recalculated" I thought I was heading back in the right direction, but after looking at road signs that were not familiar, I knew I was not heading home. Right about that time, the low fuel light came on and I realized that there was NO WAY, I was going to stop and get gas in this part of town. For one, my kids were with me. Two, I was the minority. Three, I was a female and four, you just don't stop at gas stations that have bars on the windows, no matter what time of day it is. So I gave the garmin time to figure out where I was and time to recalculate. At that point I was just praying to make it home with the fuel I had. I finally figured out where I needed to go and we continued on to our normal I-696E with out further problems. I did make it home, running on fumes.
So Thursday I went to Cannon's school to be the Library mom. I read his class a book called "Pumpkin Jack". Then I helped the kids find library books to check out. It was really fun getting to know kids in his class and seeing the different personalities. Later that night, we had the missionaries over. They are having transfers on Tuesday and Steve wanted them to come over and pick out one of his many ties to exchange. He usually writes a personal message on the inside before the exchange.
Friday, I just cleaned the house and we watched movies in the evening. We let Cannon rent Iron Man and he loved it. I think in the 24 hours we had it, he watched it 3 times. Now he is busy coloring pictures of Iron Man.
Saturday we watched both sessions of General Conference. During the brake, I went to Randazzo which is a produce market. The produce there is a lot better then Wal-mart or Meijer. Anyways, while I was there I was looking at the potatoes and they had the usual small potatoes and then I saw a sign that said "Idaho Potatoes". I went and looked at the potatoes and they REALLY were Idaho potatoes. They were HUGE. I started thinking about home and what everyone was doing now. I can't believe a vegetable can make such a difference in your life. I was thinking how, all of the kids are probably out of school for Spud Harvest, about working in the spuds when I was younger. And how the potato was our high school mascot. It literally brought a tear to my eye. I could even smell the spud cellars and hear the spud trucks driving endlessly back and forth down our road. Life in Michigan is so much different than in the small farm town that I grew up in. Someday, we'll be back!
Sunday, we did the same thing, but we spiced things up a bit. We had the Olson's and the missionaries over for dinner. Steve cooked ribs and we ate those precious "Idaho" potatoes. The missionaries picked out their ties and headed back to the church. We listen to conference here. After conference we just sat and visited, watched the kids play and attack Steve and Matt. They raced back and forth. Karlee and Nixon wanted to participate and it was driving Cannon nuts that the little kids would start before Steve said "go". He said to me with his arms in the air "Mom, grab her!" It was really funny.
So a little about Steve, he is on psych rotations now. They sent him to a mental hospital. Most of the patients there are in lock-down and he doesn't get to have much interaction with them except when they need to have shock therapy. Steve gets to hold the patients while they shock them. Supposedly its suppose to reset the brain! It reminds me of something out of a movie. I have never seen the movie of Silence of a Lamb, but that's the kind of thing I picture when he tells me about it. I didn't think they actually still "SHOCKED" people. Isn't that a little inhumane? So after Steve and another student get done helping the doctors, they send them to--- the basement,--- of the mental hospital,---- in a file room,----- to study. He says he is usually down there for 4-5 hours a day. If that doesn't mess with your psychi, I don't know what will. Anyways, Steve doesn't think that psych is something he will ever go into.
So here we are, back at Monday, to start the week, all over again!

Sounds like you guys have had quite the adventurous few days. I think thats funny that Karlee was singing in the car. Aves yesterday during conference was being really loud and I would ask her to please stop and she would say MOM, I'm jut singing. Fun that you got to help out and Cannons class too. We miss you guys. Love you
I can relate to you in so many ways. Yes Michigan is so much different then our home town. Its an adventure thats for sure, but it makes you miss home and the simple life so much! It is so scary driving there. One time I had to have Justin come and get me at a mall because my battery died and I wasn't about to ask anyone for help.
That shock therapy thing is kinda freaky. Poor Steve! I am sure he can't wait to move on to something new.
Hey girly! Little things like an "Idaho potato" remind me different situations all the time and makes me feel like I am back in that moment. I hope you guys are doing okay clear over there! Joseph had psych for his first rotation and was glad when it was over. He wasn't too thrilled about it and figured it was something he wouldn't like to go into either. Tell Steve hey from us!! The other day while driving Javien said remember my friend Cannon, and his dad is Steve? It was so cute!! Anyway, talk to you later!
I am always reminded of shelley spud days this time of year. Everyone here thinks it's so funny and that we actually had a spud for our school mascot. Boy I miss those days, and I miss you too!
When we were in school I always missed home. I looked forward to every visit, and when you live in a bigger city you really miss the simple life of Idaho. It is so good to be home by family again. That makes me laugh about Steven. I can just see his face the first time he had to do that. Dave hated every minute of his psych rotation, He said he felt like he was in a nightmare for a month strait. He did that rotaion in Idaho falls and the guy sometimes didn't even show up so Dave would have to listen to them all by himself and make the call. Plus Dave is a major softy so he had a real hard time with everyones sob story. He said thier lives sucked so bad. So made Steven has the better end of it.
Sounds like a scary drive for you to the airport. There is nothing worse than getting lost in a scary part of town and having to lock the doors even while you are driving.
